  1. Contact your desired supervising professor prior to application (or eligibility screening if receiving one) and obtain their consent.
    Review the academic and research fields of the professor by referring to OUHS Graduate School guide, website, etc., to base your decision on their achievements and course content.
    If you are from another university and do not know how to reach the professor, contact the Graduate School Office.
  2. Submit application documents by mail or by bringing them in person to the Graduate School Office.
  3. Once received, the application documents and examination fee will not be returned for any reason.
  4. Please be reminded that if there are any problems/omissions in your application documents, you may not be allowed to take the examination.
  5. Once submitted, no changes to the application documents are permitted.

Scholarship

Research fellowship program
Each year, this unique program of OUHS gives 50,000 yen monthly to 3 students in the Doctoral course. As the application period starts with that for the Doctoral course, a person who wishes to apply should submit the application documents for the research fellowship together with those for the Doctoral course.

*This selection is not limited to foreign applicants, and the examination is open to anyone who have confidence in their English ability.

  1. A person who holds a Master’s degree
  2. A person who has received a degree equivalent to a Master’s degree in a foreign country
  3. A person designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Public Notice No. 118 of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology dated September 1, 1989)*
    *A person engaged in research for at least 2 years at a university, research institute, etc., after graduating from a university or completing 16 years of school education overseas who has been recognized by OUHS Graduate School as having academic ability equivalent to or higher than that of a person with a Master’s degree based on their research achievements, etc.
  4. A person assessed as having academic ability equivalent to or higher than that of a person with a Master’s degree via individual eligibility screening in OUHS Graduate School who are aged 24 years or older
  5. A person expected to meet one of the above (1) to (4) by March 31, 2024.

    Eligibility screening documents should be brought in to the Graduate School Office in person or sent by mail during the submission period.
    1. If bringing in to the office, the hours of acceptance shall be as follows:
      Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      Closed on Saturday and Sundays and public holidays

    • For those applying for research fellowship (Applications are accepted for Schedule A only; however, if all the 3 spots are not filled, the application period will be extended for Schedule B to fill the remaining spot[s].)

Examination procedure

An applicant’s research plan and presentation will be evaluated in a comprehensive manner to make a selection.

Notes

  1. Arrive at the waiting room at the examination site by 8: 50 a.m.
  2. Each applicant will be given 8 minutes to deliver their presentation. The presentation will be followed by Q&A.
  3. Applicants must prepare their presentation materials in advance with Microsoft PowerPoint software and use them to deliver the presentation on the examination day.
Admission procedures
  1. Those admitted will be notified by mail with the admission documents.

  3. An offer of admission will be revoked if the required procedures are not completed within the specified period.
  4. Once paid, the admission fee, tuition, and miscellaneous expenses are basically nonrefundable. However, for a person declining their admission in writing due to unavoidable circumstances, all except for the admission fee will be refunded. Admission can be declined until March 22, 2024 (Fri.) (The letter must arrive by this date).

Application Guidelines for OUHS Graduate School Doctorate Course Research Fellowship Program

Prepare a research achievements report using the following table, and submit it with the research fellowship application form and other necessary application documents.
*For the selection of the research fellows, applicants’ economic status may be taken into consideration.

Notes
  • The achievements to be listed should be limited to those published/presented during the current and previous fiscal years.
    Research papers accepted during the application period that are certain to be presented or published may be included (regardless of the timing of the presentation or publication).
  • Submit all research papers and other documents described in the report (photocopies are acceptable). Regarding those accepted for publication, submit the first draft or a document that proves the acceptance of the paper.
  • Describe the presence or absence of peer review.
    If yes, attach the rules, guidelines, or the part of the website that states that peer review will be conducted.
  • Should any wrongdoing by the fellowship recipient be detected, the funds received must be returned.

– Before submission, have your instructor sign to verify that your achievements are classified properly.
– The student committee will make a final decision on the contents of the submitted achievements and make an assessment based on “the agreements on the assessment of a research achievements report.” 

*In principle, the research fellows will receive the scholarship (50,000 yen/month) continuously for 3 years. However, they are required to submit annual reports on their research activities to the student committee and, depending on the research progress, the payment of the scholarship funds may be suspended.
